Rooted Woman, statement pendant, Beaded and Stitched by Hand.

I hand-stitched this pendant with strong, archival quality bead thread, which makes this an heirloom-quality piece of jewellery. No glue guns here!
I created this pendant while listening to the audio book “If Women Rose Rooted” by Sharon Blackie and after reading the words of poet Rainer Maria Rilke, “If we surrendered to earth’s intelligence
we could rise up rooted, like trees.” I am grateful to these amazing writers for their inspiration.
The pendant features an asymmetric yet balanced design comprised of a polymer clay face, a raku pod (by MAKUstudio), two Swarovski Rivoli crystals, and a lace agate gemstone cabochon.
Each element has been stitched onto a faux suede foundation fabric using various bead embroidery techniques.
A hand-hammered copper bail (by McDaddio) attaches Rooted Woman to the black cork cord.
Her “roots” are symbolised by a genuine copper metal tube bead dangle, Czech glass dagger beads, and short beaded fringes.
The black cord is made from cork from Portugal, has a cotton inner core and cotton thread, and is totally vegan. It feels and looks remarkably like leather and is strong and water resistant. The cord is 21.5 inches (55cm) long, plus a 3-inch stainless steel, hypoallergenic extension chain.
The lobster clasp and extension chain are stainless steel and hypoallergenic.
The seed beads are Japanese glass seed beads.
The black backing is faux leather (last photo).
The pendant was hand-beaded and hand-stitched by me.
